Bespoke Helical Stairs, London

Seven flights of bespoke helical stairs in Hampstead

Our brief was to design, manufacture and install seven individual flights of bespoke helical stairs in a renovation project in Hampstead’s Telegraph Hill.

The basement space is neutral and calm, housing the pool. Because of this the lower ground floor staircase is clad in stone. The remainder of flights are clad in dark rich American Walnut, offset beautifully against the simple white plastered parapet wall.

The parapet walls have feature glass panels, allowing light to flood through from adjacent windows. As a result, the lower ground floor panels afford a tantalising glimpse of the basement pool.

A dark brown leather stitched handrail intersects the parapet wall, travelling along its length up 7 flights in one continuous sweep. This staircase looks as majestic from the bottom as it does from the top.
