Job Vacancy – Purchasing / Procurement / Buying Assistant, North Yorkshire
Do you have a strong track record in a previous procurement, purchasing or buying role?
Have you worked within a role connected to the construction, architecture, design, fabrication or manufacture sectors?
Bisca is recognised throughout the UK and worldwide for designing and manufacturing beautiful staircases; each commission being completely exclusive to the client and home it is made for. We currently have an exciting job vacancy for a Purchasing / Procurement / Buying Assistant who will work from our head office in North Yorkshire.
Having built an unprecedented reputation within the luxury staircase market, Bisca is proud of the client feedback we receive, which continuously recognises the exceptional quality of design and craftmanship applied throughout our business. Due to internal progression, this job opportunity has been created to ensure we can continue to meet the high expectations of our clients.
£ Attractive Salary Depending on Experience + Benefits
The successful candidate will take care of all procurement responsibilities – playing an integral role in allowing our talented design and workshop teams to push the boundaries in terms of the materials they work with and the creativity they can offer each project.
Primarily we are seeking a passionate individual who has a genuine willingness to learn; a strong eye for detail; and who enjoys building new – while nurturing current – supplier relationships. An understanding of how materials impact building or interior design and integrate with a wider construction project is beneficial. While a positive attitude and the aspiration to develop your knowledge are both essential to this role. For the right person, Bisca will offer a comprehensive training and development programme, along with secure and exciting career prospects.
The Role
Reporting to the Operations Director, no two days will be the same – you will build relationships and source a wide range of products – from curved and structural glass; reclaimed green oak and walnut; to beautiful stones, marble and metals. This is a very hands-on role where you will be in constant close liaison with all company functions. You will work directly with both sales, designers, finance and craftsmen – arranging for samples to be provided to clients; understanding manufacturing techniques; and negotiating the best rates available.
Typically the selection of staircase materials will be influenced by both quality, environmental footprint and aesthetics. An important part of the role is therefore the management and development of our supplier base. Controlling costs and bill of materials will be a key aspect of this role, as well as ensuring components arrive in sequence, on time and within budget to specification.
Specific Tasks Include:
Finance – Providing accurate purchase documentation; ensuring clarity of supplier status and order trails
Manufacture – Working alongside workshop colleagues, overseeing stock management; procurement of machinery, tooling and fixings
Maintenance – Proactive tool & machinery maintenance and repair program to include testing and feedback processes
Logistics – Management of multiple projects, upkeeping company database records and organising site installations
Health & Safety – Prepare health & safety documentation required for materials procurement
Key Skills and Experience
Relevant technical knowledge or a genuine willingness to learn and understand technical drawings, terms and components
Commercial awareness with the ability to manage costings effectively
Proven outstanding organisational & administration skills
Strong and confident communication with stakeholders at all levels and third party contacts
Prioritisation of workload to ensure company objectives, manufacturing deadlines and task sequencing
Fully computer literate and conversant with Microsoft Office packages, including Outlook and specifically Excel

A can-do attitude with the ability to resolve issues calmly and professionally
