Bespoke Cantilevered Staircase, Soho

A bespoke cantilevered staircase in converted Victorian hospital

Project ID: 3462

Faithful to the style favoured by Victorians, the old hospital building in Soho had unusually high ceilings. This made the staircase much higher than the normal domestic installation. To make things even more interesting, there was an added complication of unsound party walls.

Our solution was a walnut open rise bespoke cantilevered staircase, appearing to extend unsupported from a plastered wall. A full half landing maximises the flow of light from the window.

As with all Bisca designs, it’s the detail that makes the difference, and in this instance bespoke grit blasted tread fixings were used to pay homage to the buildings industrial heritage. These provide a tangible but almost subconscious link with the exposed steel in other areas of the apartment.
